Welcome back everyone. Hopefully everyone had a memorable holiday season and are well rested and ready to take on a new semester. This term we have some exciting training opportunities planned so keep your eye on our website and join our Facebook group so you won’t miss a thing. We have a very busy term for Winter with our annual weapon seminar, tournament, guest instructors and testing (for those who qualify) so lets get started!

Queen’s TKD T-shirt design competition

This year, we are looking to create some cool QTKD clothing for the members of the Tae Kwon Do Club to purchase, however, we need a design or a logo first!Send in your neat ideas to queenstkd (at) gmail.com . Make sure to include “Queen’s TKD” or “Queen’s Tae Kwon Do” somewhere in the design.

The contest starts NOW and closes October 31st, 2011. Whoever wins the contest receives a free item of QTKD clothing!

The Queen’s TKD had its first potluck social, which was an amazing success! The theme was pirates vs. ninjas, and there were many truly authentic costumes (especially with the ninjas!) . Thanks to President Rosalind for hosting, and for everyone for bringing such delicious food.

The Queen’s TKD club will usually have a mini social every other week at the Grad club (generally on the third floor, at the top of the stairs). These events are all ages and a great way to get to know the people you are training with! Keep an ear open in class for the next Grad club night.

Advanced Belt Classes

Advanced Belt Classes for this term are open to all colour belts and students with previous experience. Classes for next term will be for Green Belts and above. Advanced Belt Classes are held immediately following regular class. Typically, the regular class is cut 15-30 minutes short to allow for an Advanced Class that is 70-90 minutes long. You must attend the regular class in order to participate in the Advanced Class. If you have a schedule conflict then please speak to Mr.Delouche.

Thursday, Oct. 27 – Advanced Belt Class – Knife & gun self defence / meditiation (advanced kicks will be covered next term)

Saturday, Oct. 29 – After Class Training (open to all ranks) – MMA / grappling

Saturday, Nov. 12 – Advanced Belt Class – Intermediate Throws, MMA / grappling

These additional training opportunities are are for your interest and development. They are entirely optional and have no influence on eligibility for belt testing.

Suggestions for topics next term are welcome. Planned topics already included advanced kicks, escalated/multiple opponent self defence, and continuous/moderate contact and/or multiple opponent sparring.

TKD Haunted House!

American Kang Duk Kwon is running its annual haunted house again this year. A group of students traveled to Watertown, NY last weekend to support this fun and important event! All the proceeds from the Haunted house go to supporting the local YMCA, which provides us with space for our main Dojang. If you are interested in participating next weekend, talk to one of the instructors or exec.

Welcome Back!

Hopefully everyone had a fantastic summer and is now ready for another great year!

The Queen’s Tae Kwon Do Club is back starting this week. Here’s where to find us for the next few weeks:

Outdoor Classes during Orientation Week

Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Thursday, Sept. 8

6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Classes are held on the waterfront at the Time Monument on King Street at the bottom of Albert Street.

ASUS Orientation Sidewalk Sale‏

Friday, Sept. 9

8 am to 4 pm

Look for our booth at the Sidewalk Sale‏ on University Avenue.

QTKD Club Classes Begin Sept. 13

Here’s our class schedule for the year:

Tuesday, 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm, Combatives Room 1, ARC

Thursday, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm, Dance Studio 4, ARC

Saturday, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm, Combatives Room 2, ARC

Please note that our Thursday time slot was pushed back 30 minutes and moved to Dance Studio 4.

QTKD Club Free Demonstration

Our annual free demonstartion. All returning students are encouraged to be part of the demo team.

Please note that new students are welcome to participate starting Thursday, Sept. 22. The classes prior to this date are for the instructors and returning students to prepare for the Sept. 20 demonstartion.

New students

New students with any and all levels of experience are always welcome. If you’d like to find more about the club, come to the free demonstration, say hello at the sidewalk sale or athletics night, or attend any of our regularly scheduled classes after the demonstration. In the mean time, get the event details and learn more about the club (including the class schedule).

Returning Students

Classes in the ARC start Tuesday, September 13 and follow the new class schedule.

If you are able to help with any of the recruiting events (Athletics Night, Demonstration), get in touch with the executive.

No Classes Week of April 26

Testing results

Congratulations to all the students who tested, you have been promoted to your next rank. Master Lawlor was impressed with your performance and the instructors are all proud of you.

End of official classes

This past Thursday was the last official class of the year. Unfortunately, we loose our facility time in the ARC with the end of academic classes and we will be unable to use the Studio or Combatives room. (See next paragraph.)

Start of unofficial classes

I will be holding unofficial classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays during exams. We will meet outside the racquet ball court at 7:00 and find a room. I will send an e-mail and post on the web site if their are any cancellations.

Summer classes

Summer classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 starting May 4th. Classes are held outside in the beautiful summer weather at the Time Monument at the base of Albert St. (map below). We train in our uniforms (note there is no change facility) and you may wear shoes if you wish. Be sure to bring all of your regular class gear (water, mouthguard, sparring equipment, etc.) as well as any needed extras such as sunscreen and shoes. Unfortunately, the weather isn’t always cooperative. In the event of lightning or torrential downpour, class will be canceled.
